Publisher’s Book Summary: Life as the middle child feels cramped and unfair, but one girl discovers that the best things in life are found in the middle.
Being Middle is a heartwarming and playful picture book that celebrates the special role of middle children in family dynamics. With lyrical rhymes and relatable scenarios, it captures the ups and downs of being caught between a big sibling and a little one. From sharing cramped car rides to getting only hand-me-downs, the story explores challenges with humor and honesty—while ultimately revealing why being in the middle is something to treasure.
MY REVIEW
I just fell in love with this rhyming story about middle children!! Lori described what being a middle can be. Smartly enough, she showed the two sides of a coin. Being middle can be a nuisance, but it can also have a brighter side! Although I am not a middle child, I identified my own middle son in every single situation!
Rhyming stories are my favourites! They offer many tools when teaching the language. Rhymes reinforce pronunciation and promote vocabulary, they also encourage children to remember the story and above all, they are so much fun to read!!
Being Middle is also beautifully illustrated. Vibrant expressions and colorful images support the story on every page. The warmth of family scenes adds to the message of the book.
Middle children will discover their new role in the family with this story. They will learn to look at life from different sides and turn the negative into positive. But not only middle children can benefit from the message; it can work perfectly well with first, last and only children too!
After all, being a child, whether first, middle, last or only, is not easy.
Luckily, there are stories like Being Middle to teach children about life.
