It's been almost two weeks since the convention, and I am still reflecting on the routes we've riden.
I met so many wonderful people and reunited with so many more!
I learned from every talk I attended! These are my takeaways.
Margie Marc, another view into windows and mirrors; although the concept was not new to me, the activities and recommendations were enriching.
I was happy to discover I was not alone on my journey. There were so many teachers interested in books and reading beyond the pages.
Mina Patel, was awesome! Her session made me wonder not only about the future of English but about the present; about all the opportunities English can open /bring to our lives. There are so many realities! There is still so much to be done!
Rose Aylet and the 7 principles for a critical language pedagogy. I took her call to give learners the chance to take action for social justice.
Chris Kunz is a true phonetics advocate. I wonder why teachers do not talk about pronunciation with the passion he did. I admit I do!
Yvonne Chappell and Vicki Plant: colors, feelings and emotions. There is nothing more important, in my humble opinion, than seeing the human being, with all his/her life experiences, before we see the student. Understanding feelings is the key. Nothing can be more motivating than feeling REALLY important for the teacher.
Borja Urueña shared his story about the teacher who influenced his career choice. How can a passionate teacher make such a difference!? It was so moving to discover 'that teacher' was in the audience! I wonder where I have left my mark...
Esteban Pereyra and his puppets!! He put so much energy into the show!! It was as magical as the magic of puppets and stories! Lucky those who still keep their inner child.
Gerard McLoughlin talked about 'emergent language' and proposed tips to overcome communication breakdowns.
I wish I could have attended Emma Heyderman, Katherine Bilsborough, Jennifer, Murray, Reena Mistry, Anabel Reis Alves, Stella Palavecino, Florencia Giudici, Adriana Coto, Vanessa Reilly, Charles Goodger, Teresa Bestwick, Esther Vazquez and many others.
As a member of the organization, I could not be happier. I did my best to make the convention a success. I am thankful for the opportunity.
There will be more Tesol Spain, #seville2026
