Starting in outer space, we zoom in page by page, to our planet, Martha's community, her very own bedroom and beyond... to her dreams into a future where ANYTHING is possible. Full of quirky details and fun non-fiction labels, children will discover cool new facts with every reading. Each map is full of an irresistible sense of excitement about the world and optimism for the future.
Aim: Learn about geography and map reading techniques.
What we can learn: -General notions of the universe : The Solar System, the planets, the Earth.
-Develop map reading skills.
-Develop spatial skills.
-Learn to read city maps. Give simple locations -prepositions- and directions -commands-
-Talk about places in a city. Describe one's city.
-Read a map of a house. Describe parts of the house.
My opinion: The book is a source of vocabulary for language learners. It is a fantastic option to start children in the interpretation of maps of places they know and places they could visit. During holidays, they could look at places available in a new city and also how to get there.
The idea of zooming from the space into Martha's bedroom is wonderful!! Children will enjoy peeping into her house, they can compare it to their own house and describe their favourite room.
Every page is full of details that children will love to explore and that could be turned into a guessing game! (I spy with my little eye...).
This unusual picture book is one to return over and over again!!
