What would you do if you could stop.... time???
Topic: children's fiction
Age: 5/8
Pages: 32
Level: young learners
Skills: reading -and reflecting- speaking/writing: telling the time.
Description: It seems TIME is always chasing us. At least this is the way Joe feels.
It seems that everything in his life has to be 'in a hurry'. Mum is in a hurry, he has to get ready for school in a hurry, the teacher is in a hurry, Joe has to finish his work, the class is finishing!!!
He feels overwhelmed!! He can't enjoy the small things of life, finish his drawing or discover why his little sister is crying. So... he decides to stop time and look at the small things in detail and FEEL the world around him. Will he be able to stop the clock??
Aim: talk about the value of small things in life and taking time to do them and sharing them with people around us.
What we can learn: -Learning the time: telling and asking the time; although time is the reason Joe feels frustrated, children can learn to make good use of time and, also, enjoy life.
-The stories inside the story: children are excellent observers! They can talk about all the people in the street, 'What are they doing? Where are they going? How are they feeling?'
In addition, the beautiful pictures of the houses are an invitation to imagine endless stories.
What I think: It is a lovely story simple but deep!!! It has an important message for adults too: even after everything the world suffered during the pandemic, many people are living in a hurry again, trying to do more than one thing at a time; what's worse they fill children's time with lots of activities, leaving them with no opportunities to play and simply... discover the world. Inspiring in many ways!!!
